The Photography Summary:
1) Stills
about 1000 ISO
about f/2.4 with new lens
about 5 - 10 sec exposure
White balance - about 4500 k
to test - limits of ISO pushing-how many stops ± TEST+ Do same photo with 100 ISO and 1000 and 5000 and see where it gets you.
Test - outdoors. Set at ISO 100 and fast shutter/ aperture, to seriously under expose. Then increase the ISO to 1000, 5000, and HI ISO.
Next - overexposed. Set at ISO 100 and properly expose per the meter, then increase the ISO till ugly.
LENS tests- do a white photo properly exposed to set the vignetting in LightRoom. and then a brick wall to calibrate the distortion.
can I adjust brightness in camera to test exposure?
to test - do photos with HI ISO setting.
what happens to noise when you halve the number of pixels - should go down significantly. Test on pre-existing images
Test vignetting today in the daylight
Color noise?
noise reduction Test on pre-existing images
2) Time Lapse
use still settings, of course. Practice setting up.
should be enough light pollution to mimic the Aurorae. Just set up to get light pollution, and some planes and you should be good.
I think I cannot use RAW to do this. Check
3) Interval photos put into time lapse
Interval photos may be the best way to do the aurorae
NOTE: Set up a set of exposures. Write down what you will do beforehand, as if it were a lab session.
